Q. Can I become a certified and licensed EMT in Ohio if I pass the EMT & Fire Training EMT B Course?
A. Yes. Ohio uses the National Registry as their testing and certification mechanism. Our NREMT EMT courses help you to acquire an NREMT certification that will allow you to apply for reciprocity with the state of Ohio. Students who graduate from our program and obtain NREMT certification are able to apply for an Idaho Certificate of Eligibility. This document states that you meet all requirements for State Licensure except for being affiliated with a Licensed EMS Agency in Idaho. Most states will accept this document as evidence of certification, but you should check with your individual state to verify this prior to enrolling. It is best for you to get a written response from your state agency that states they will accept this document, so that if there is a question down the road you can produce evidence to that fact.
Q. Where is the state of Ohio in the transition from the National Standard Curriculum to the new National EMS Education Standards?
A. Ohio is staying current with the changes being made with the new National EMS Education Standards.
Q. Does Ohio require any extra EMT training that EFT does not provide in its course?
A. Yes. Ohio requires that EMT-Basics have a 12-hour Advanced Airway Curriculum course provided at training facilities all over Ohio.

Q. How do I recertify for EMS in the State of Ohio?
A. EMT-Basics in Ohio must complete 40-hours of Continuing Education including 6 hours on pediatric issues, 2 hours on geriatric issues, 8 hours on trauma issues to include completion of the trauma triage and transportation protocols approved by the board, or a passing score on a board approved exam to demonstrate competence to have a certificate to practice as an EMT-Basic that would have otherwise been shown by CEU’s.

If you need to keep your NREMT certification current, or need help getting your 40 hours of CE’s, we offer an online refresher that is 24 hours, and includes 10 hours of self-directed learning, and 14 hours of Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) sessions where a real instructor is present to answer questions and discuss the topics. It is fully accepted by the NREMT and is CECBEMS accredited. This is only one of the few online refreshers that meet the actual requirements by the NREMT to be counted as an official refresher. You have 2 years to complete the refresher from the time you sign up (or you can usually get it done in as little as 2 to 3 weeks). The cost of the refresher is $249.
