New Jersey EMT Course Acceptance and Certification Data

Q. Can I become a certified and licensed EMT in New Jersey if I pass the EMT & Fire Training EMT Course?

A. Yes. The state of New Jersey accepts applicants who hold an NREMT certificate to apply for license through Reciprocity. Our course allows and prepares you to take the NREMT practical and written exams. Upon successful completion of our course and both exams you will be NREMT certified.

Q. Where is the state of New Jersey in the transition from the National Standard Curriculum to the new National EMS Education Standards?

A. The state of New Jersey is staying current with the NREMT and requiring all of their EMS providers to stay current as well. Levels of licensure are EMT and Paramedic.

Q. Does New Jersey require any extra EMT training that EFT does not provide in its course?

A. Yes. The applicant must take a NJ-OEMS approved Core #13 Refresher program. However, NREMT certified applicants will be permitted to obtain a New Jersey EMT-Basic certification without taking the state written examination.

Q. How do I recertify for EMS in the State of New Jersey?

A. To recertify as an EMT in the state of New Jersey, you must complete a certain amount of CEU’s before you can apply. The CEU’s must be from an approved CEU program.

We offer an online refresher that is 24 hours, and includes 10 hours of self-directed learning, and 14 hours of Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) sessions where a real instructor is present to answer questions and discuss the topics. It is fully accepted by the NREMT and is CECBEMS accredited. This is only one of the few online refreshers that meet the actual requirements by the NREMT to be counted as an official refresher. You have 2 years to complete the refresher from the time you sign up (or you can usually get it done in as little as 2 to 3 weeks). The cost of the refresher is $249.
